What are tubular or tuberous breasts?

Tuberous,  tubular or constricted breasts, are an anomaly in the shape of the breast. This genetic condition is characterized by a tight and narrow base in the breast and a high fold, which makes the breasts appear elongated. If you are worried about their shape you may have tuberous breasts.

Tuberous sinuses are very common but can vary greatly in the degree of severity or deformation with respect to what is considered normal breasts. In the mild form, it could be characterized by a high crease below the chest and a short distance between the nipple and the crease under the breast. The most severe cases are characterized by a tightness in the lower part of the breast and an elongated shape of the breast, as well as a herniation of the areola ( the brown area around the nipple).

The postoperative and recovery of the intervention

Recovery after tuberous breast surgery is usually quite fast. If you undergo a simple breast implant procedure, you will need a night in the hospital and if you need a tissue expansion operation, you should return regularly for your surgeon to insert the salt water into the implants. Most people do not feel much discomfort after this procedure and any discomfort they experience is easily controlled with medications such as paracetamol.

The type of healing will depend on the type of surgery you have had to correct your tuberous sinuses. If you have a simple breast implant procedure, the scar will usually be in the crease under the breast. If you need surgery on the nipple, this will involve a thin scar around it. In both cases, the scars will remain slightly red for a few months after surgery and will later fade.

• In the postoperative period of the operation of tubular or tuberous breasts, dressings or bandages will be applied in their incisions and a support garment can be used to minimize swelling.
• We can temporarily put a small, thin tube to drain blood or fluid that may accumulate.
• You will be instructed how to care for wounds and scars, as well as medications to mitigate pain, help to heal and reduce the potential for infection.
