CHEMICAL PEELINGS: It consists of the application of chemical substances to exfoliate and detach old and damaged skin cells that are replaced by a new regenerated skin.
They can be superficial, medium or deep (for example: salicílicio, glicólico, TCA, phenol …) to combat problems like acne and its marks, spots and fine wrinkles.
Peeling is a naturally occurring process by which the skin is renewed by removing dead cell layers from the skin. With aging, this natural mechanism loses its effectiveness and as a consequence small spots and marks appear, superficial wrinkles and later deep wrinkles.
Chemical peels can improve the appearance of the skin. The chemical peel treatment consists in the application of a chemical solution to the skin, to exfoliate and detach the old and damaged cells of the cutaneous surface that are replaced by a new regenerated skin. The new skin is usually smoother and with fewer wrinkles than the old skin.
Chemical peels can be performed on the face, in the neck area…. With the chemical peel the following benefits are obtained:
Generally, fair-skinned and light-haired patients are better candidates for chemical peels. If you have darker skin, you may also have good results, depending on the type of problem being treated.
More severe skin depressions, lumps, and wrinkles do not respond well to chemical peels. They may need other types of procedures such as laser resurfacing, facelift, brow lift, eyelid lift surgery, or facial fillers.
Depending on the type of peel performed (superficial, medium, or deep), there is a reaction similar to a sunburn after the procedure. The peel usually includes redness followed by peeling that ends in three to seven days. A mild or superficial facial chemical peel treatment may be repeated at intervals of one to four weeks.
In a medium or deep chemical peel, it can produce swelling, as well as small blisters that can break, in a period of seven to 14 days. The average facial peel can be repeated if necessary after a variable period between 6 and 12 months.
After treatment, you may need bandages for several days on part or all of the skin that was treated.
You will need to avoid the sun for several months after the chemical peel because the new skin in the treated area will be more fragile.
Some skin types are more likely to develop a temporary or permanent color change in the skin after a chemical peel treatment. Taking birth control pills, a subsequent pregnancy, or a family history of facial discoloration on the skin may make this more likely.
There is a low risk of scarring in certain areas of the face. Some people may be more prone to it. However, if scarring does occur, it can usually be treated with good results.
For people with a history of herpes outbreaks, there is a small risk of reactivating cold sores. There are medications that can be given preventively to prevent recurrence of herpes episodes.
The price of a facial chemical peel varies from area to area and doctor. Possible additional costs to consider, especially with deep chemical peels, are the cost of anesthesia, use of surgical facilities, and possible hospitalization. The final cost of your procedure will depend on the type of peel you want, the condition of your skin, and other factors unique to your case. Light chemical peels can cost as little as €200, while deep chemical peels are generally the most expensive and can cost more than thousands of euros.
